Your back-up gun choice...

What is your ideal backup gun, a sub-compact 9mm or a 380ACP? I just picked up a Springfield XD9 Sub-compact to back up my .45 I am tempted to go even smaller with a Kahr P380

First off, I"m assuming your

First off, I"m assuming your referring to concealed carry. I carry a S&W 3913, or a S&W 642. The 3913 I carry on a belt holster as it is too large to carry anyplace else. The 642 I carry on a belt holster, but it can also be carried in a pocket holster, depending on the pants being worn. It's only a 5 shot, but dang, I don't have plans on getting into a gun battle. I also have a Ruger LCP in .380 that my son recently gave me. I have not yet had the opportunity to put it on my permit, but will do so shortly. This is the perfect pistol, in my opinion, for those times when even the 642 is too large to conceal. It slips into a "wallet" holster, goes in the back pocket and just looks like I'm carrying a wallet there, as most men do. Again, I'm not planning on getting into a gun battle, I just have the weapon for self protection. Most times the use would be in close, and the .380 is fine for in close work. Again, my opinion. Oh yea, I don't carry a "backup" gun. That is for the cops who worry about getting in prolonged gun battles.

I've heard great things about

I've heard great things about the Ruger LCP .380, unfortunatly it's not on the approved handgun list for CA; and rumor has it, there are no plans to ever alter the gun so it makes the list.
Arrrgg, CA gun laws....

Kahr is a great choice. Mine

Kahr is a great choice. Mine is a PM9. Slightly on the pricer side of CCW weapons. IMO it is a great gun. Smoothest out of the box trigger. No stacking, no creep. It is a long +6lb pull (which I think is good in a carry weapon). The reset is all the way back out at the start of the travel. It is exactly the opposite of my IDPA gun.  It has gone bang every time I pull the trigger no matter what I feed it. Carry in a Micro-tuck from cross breed holster. It disappears on my large frame. (fat guy). Just my thoughts.
