Oh well.  It will be a blast

Oh well.  It will be a blast either way.  On the positive side, the prizes are better in Morro Bay...  and the weather.... and the views of Morro Rock..

I can hardly wait.  I hope I'm classified in Open div by then. That red dot is a lot of fun.  I've shot 2 open classifiers, but they are not yet available on the ICORE homepage. I am anxious to see if I'm a high "D" or a low "C".... or a rock bottom "B" shooter.

wink

Mark.  I mailed off the October and November classifiers about 2 weeks ago.  I had forgotten about them.  I was checking on the ICORE website and didn't see anyone from our club with a September classifier listed, although as I'm typing this was that the postal match?  I will get the December classifiers off as soon as I can.  Mark Hicks

Thanks Ty.  Yep.  I'm a "B"

Thanks Ty.  Yep.  I'm a "B" in Limited, but I still don't know what my Open classification is....  I'll need 2 more classifiers to be 'official' in Open class.

Fallen sounds like fun. Will it conflict with our Sept IDPA match?

Nope!

September BBQ 18th then off to Fallon. Sounds like fun. Expect 3" of moon dust at that range in September. Now I just need to get Rimfire covered that month and all is good.

I would be going except that

I would be going except that my oldest daughter is getting married that day.  So I'll be skipping it this year..  Also,  If you look at the updated classifications on the ICORE website, last I looked it said updated Jan 7, but it has actually been updated since then.  The January classifiers are now listed.  A lot of people are getting closer to being classified for the first time or in a new division.  Mark H.

OK, here's my problem and my request. I have been officially relesed by all my doctors as good to go an my neurologist has even sent a letter to DMV stating I'm OK to drive. However, they have still suspended my license. We are in he proces of getting a hearing date to apeal tht decision, but if you hve ever delt with DMV you know how fast that process is moving along. So her is my problem, I don't have a licnse and can't drive, MY request is for someone tht may be going tht would be willing to hve me ride along. Natually, I"d pay my share of the gas and even buy a nice dinner for the driver. complete with a highball or beer, your choice. Seems only fair. Please let me know ASAP as I'm still trying to find alternatives in case I can' find a driver. Hell, we can even take my truck so you don't rack up milage on your vehicle. Thanks.

I'm working hard a trying to convience my wife she needs to drive me down an shop while I"m shooting. Now tht may be very expensive.

WEll, I'm assuming you folks that are attending are on your way since the match is only a couple days away. I hope you folks all do well and I also hop you will be able to take and post some pictues to keep those of us less fortunate individuals that weren't able to attend up to speed on what is going on.

Again good luck to all. Shoot fast and straight and safely!

Everybody have fun down

Everybody have fun down there.  I'll have to wait for the IRC.  It's moving pretty fast around my place with all of the final arrangements being made for my daughters wedding.  I took my future Son in law out shooting Wednesday.  He actually shot best with my ICORE gun.  I gave him one of my 12 guage coach guns, double barreled shotgun, for a wedding present.  My other daughters boyfriend shot too.  It was fun.  Good luck guys.  Mark H.

Southwest Regional Videos

Southwest Regional Videos Up!

What a great match!  I took video, and posted it here.

Results are here.

Everyone who went had a great time. Lots of lessons learned.  We had LOTS of steel.  It was humbling, but great at the same time.  I can hardly wait for the International Revolver Championship Match coming up in June.

Thank you Mar for the video.

Thank you Mar for the video. I love the part at the end of Wendy's classifier video when the SO says. "Oh yea...definately tape that up for Brian. lol. I guess he had no faith in Brian's ability to hit the paper. As if he is some sort of edge finder.

Wendy good job at coaxing a C hit out of a tired and worn out range officer.

Wow.  I haven't watched all

Wow.  I haven't watched all of the videos, but had a chance to see some.  Looked like Brian had a good run on the polish plate rack.  Plenty of steel down there in Morro Bay.  I know that's one thing I really need to work on, shooting the steel.  How about a little more of a report on the match and stages?  Looked like fun, and challenging.  Mark H.

Match Report: The Southwest

Match Report:

The Southwest Regional was 9 stages with a round count of 225 (by my count).  We had 9 in our squad, including me, Brian, Wendy, Ty, Robert Sharp, Steve McCormick and 3 other guys (one of which was a Limited Master).  Everyone helped out, so the stages went smoothly, taking approximately 6 hours to complete.

I had a stupid mistake on our first stage, leaving one target not engaged. That was a total of 15 secs in penalty time! Ouch.  I tried to shake it off, as the very next stage was the Polish plate rack.  Brian burned that one down, but I was a close 2nd (on our squad) behind him.

On the next stage, we shot the last two strings of Near & Far without the par times.  I had a good run on that, with 22/24 X count, taking 1st on our squad.

The next stage was a 27 plate all steel stage.  I got smoked on that, beaten by Brian, Steve, Ty and Robert. Slow reloads and losing count of my shots 3 times so I "dry fired" ...  mistakes that I have to learn from :+(

The next stage: Pro-Am4 was 20 plates from 4 boxes with a par time of 20 secs.  5 distant "bonus plates" subtracted 2 secs each from the 20 sec par time, with all remaining groups of 5 plates taking one sec off.  I was 1st in our squad on this one, with a corrected time of 4 secs, but Brian and Robert both had 5 secs. (there's great video of this one too).

"Gun Hand" was a 23 round min stage with 5 steel and a swinger. Robert took this one..  I was 4th on the squad.

Classifer stage CS-027 was 24 rounds limited, 6 tagets from 4 boxes.  I took 1st on the squad, shooting my best open classifer ever, and still placed in the 69th percentile.  I finally nailed my reloads, had all alphas and ran between boxes..  Maybe there's hope...

Stage 7 was RangeMaster's Revenge, a 34 round stage with 10 steel including a Texas Star.  I thought I shot this one well, with all A's, but my time was DOG SLOW.  I ended up being 48 secs compared to Brian's 33...  The hope was dwindling after this one..

Our last stage was #8, 12 paper x-ring targets.  I had one misfire (dud) that threw off my loads for the rest of the stage...  it ended up being a round loaded with a primer sideways! Brian was 1st in our squad and I was 2nd.. I learned yet another lesson.  Even though I had checked all my ammo earlier, ALWAYS RECHECK THEM ONE LAST TIME AS YOU PLACE THEM ON YOUR BELT... Dang! So many painful lessons..  How come I still came away smiling?

The reason?

I was hangin' with some great friends!  If you get a chance to shoot this one in '13, go for it!

Looks like everyone had

Looks like everyone had that one stage with a problem of some kind or another.  Happens for most of us.  Is anyone else planning on going down to Richmond and shooting the ICORE match, next Sunday, the 29th?  I plan on going.  Mark H.

The Richmond ICORE match on

The Richmond ICORE match on the 29th looks like a good idea.  A perfect warm up to the IRC.  I think they will have the Near and Far standards in their match using the par times.  I need all the practice I can get for that challenge!

I'm going with Brian.  I think Ty and Wendy are going as well.  I'm sure we'll all squad together.

See you guys there in

See you guys there in Richmond in the morning.  I need all the practice I can get.  They went and scheduled me for some overtime on the day of our Gridley ICORE match, but I finally found somebody else that was wanting some OT.  Anyone else going to make it to Richmond?  Mark H.

Richmond was a blast!  I took a little video of Brian and I, but Ty, Mark H. and Steve were on a different squad.  We had good stages and perfect weather.  If you've never shot with the Richmond Hotshots, give 'em a try.  You will not be disappointed!

I'm glad I went, but boy did

I'm glad I went, but boy did I have a hard time with some of that steel.  There are days I don't have much of a problem, and then sometimes I will miss way to much.  I usually don't let myself get flustered and just keep pressing on, but I was shaking my head last Sunday.

I went to Redding Tuesday and took my steel targets and some paper ICORE targets and shot around 300 rounds.  I was shooting better with my 586 (thanks, Brian) with regular Hogue finger groove grips on it compared to my 686 with the big butt grips.  I did my best to get both guns sighted in the same.  I'm going to take the big butt grips off and put the finger groove grips back on my 686 and see if it works better.  My grip seems to slip upward (as I fire each round) more with the big butt than the finger grooves.

Luckily, there's still time for a few more sessions before the IRC.  See you on the 13th for our ICORE match.  Mark H.
