Barrel

Hi everyone,

I'm a new member of IDPA and am looking forward to joining NVSA on Sunday July 17th.

My question is: as I read the IDPA Official Rule Book I see that it looks like it is not ok to change the barrel on my Glock 40 S&W to 9mm conversion barrel. Am I correct?

Thanks,

Tony

First, Welcome to the club.

First, Welcome to the club. You came to the right place to get your questions answered. You will have fun. NVSA has the best group of members of any of the clubs I frequent.

You may replace a barrel of one caliber for one of a different caliber as long as the gun remains safe and functional. This will be legal for all pistol models, however if the gun is not in the original factory shipped caliber it will not be legal for SSP division.

Example: You may replace a Glock 35 barrel (.40 caliber) with a 9mm barrel. This gun would be legal for ESP but not SSP.

If you load your own ammo, the only disadvantage to shooting .40 over 9mm is.....uh??....nothing.... except maybe the cost of the bullets. Most any .40 can be loaded to shoot as soft if not softer than their equal gun in a smaller caliber. If you still want to shoot your .40 with a 9mm barrel you will need to shoot in in the ESP division. There really is no disadvantage to ESP. You can do many cool things to your gun that you cant do in SSP. I shoot an SSP legal gun in ESP no biggie. I hope this helps.

Ty, Thanks for the welcome,

Ty,

Thanks for the welcome, Charlie has been putting up with some of my nubee issues.

You are correct about the reloading cost. I looked up(Mid-way USA) 40 S&W compaired to 9mm and it was only about $5.00 per 500 count more. So it looks like be looking for a set of 40 S&W dies.

Thanks again,

See you Sunday Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Tony

No problem. You are welcome

No problem.

You are welcome to bug any one of us privately, but if appropriate post questions in the forum so that way not only are you getting your answers, but others may learn something. Look me up on match day. I will be the big guy with a beard pushing a not so manly baby stroller and umbrella. lol
