Need a little help

Shooting this last weekend, 4/12, in the ICORE match was great. However, it became very obvious to me that I need to shoot something other than my little 2 1/2" Ruger Speed Six. I was in contact with Don Barr about a possible Ruger Security Six, 4", that he may have for sale. Nope, he decided he wasn't going to sell. Good for him. I hate to sell guns. Just something sacrilegious about that. Anyway, I decided to check out the possibility of using a S&W 27 with 6" barrel that I have. It doesn't have the ability to use the Safariland brand of speedloaders and thereupon is my problem. I don't have an aversion to using the HKS speedloaders from a speed standpoint. Sure, they are a bit slower than the Safariland, but the increase in accuracy with the 6" barrel will more than offset the slight inconvenience of the HKS speedloader. But, my problem is, how the heck do I carry them? Will they fit in the Safariland 333 speedloader holder? I hate to spend the kind of money they want for one of those to only find that they won't work. Anyone have the 333 and a HKS speedloader that can try it and let me know? Anyone else got a suggestion for carrying the HKS?

Sorry for being so long winded to just ask a simple question, but I wanted all to understand why I was using the HKS and not the Safariland. I am going to get the Safariland holster and inner and outer belt. Is there anything else you suggest I consider?

OK, Can you Say

OK, Can you Say DADE.

They made them years ago and are now discontinued. Oh... Look... Theres some on Ebay.  I have heard that they are fast. You might want to check them out. There is also Maxfire Not as fast but better than HKS IMO. If all else Cut it for moons, load it up and run limited.

Well, maybe I will look into

Well, maybe I will look into having the revolver modified for the moon clips. If I have to by any of the loaders at around 8 bucks each, it won't take much more to get the cylinder done. Now, that brings up the question if I have the cylinder done, can I find clips that will fit it or do I have to special order them? I know nothing about moon clips.

And of course the next question is where can I get the work done? Has anyone got a gunsmith recommendation?

Cutting for moons will

Cutting for moons will be more expensive than 50 dollars worth of loaders. Here is a cost analysis.

Dang, I didn't realize that

Dang, I didn't realize that the moon clips were $6 each. That is just way too expensive.

Ty, I went to the ebay link

Ty, I went to the ebay link you provided and bought some of the reloaders. Heck, I'll give them a try and see what happens. Now to just find a holder for them.

CPWSA They show the K & L

CPWSA

They show the K & L Pouches. I have bought from them and still own Ready Tactical N frame pouches. You are welcome to borrow them at the next event if you want to try them out. I ran SL VARIANT Speedloaders with 45Autorim in Classic.

BobMacs it the only importer of SL Variant product from Germany to my knowledge. Some claim they are the hottest ticket in town. Unlike the Safariland that holds a group of bullets the SL Variant holds each one individually. Any 625 shooters that ever want to give autorim a go just let me know. Here is their press release

I just saw on their website that SL Variant also makes Speadloaders for your Model27. FYI, not cheap, but what about this sport is.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information. I've ordered the Dade speedloaders, and some of the safariland CD-2 holders. I'll have to see how they work after I get them. In the meantime, I sent a message to Bobby asking for more information on the SL Variant to verify that he has loaders that will fit. Dang, getting to be a hassel for me. Should have just bought another gun! Ha Ha
